Senecca and Religion

Senecca the Younger
Seneca the Younger penned these famous and portentous words:

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."

Being a contemporary of Christ, it seems significant to me that he would have such a perspective.

What are your thoughts?

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. But to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

Hello Anonymous!

Thank you for your bible quotes. I do wonder though, how are you applying them? Could you please explain for the benefit of everyone reading, religious and skeptics alike?

Cheers!

Yeah Anonymous, I am going to quote some random book at you like the Tao Te Chin and not explain my references, that will show you. Christians quoting Bible verses at non Christians with out any context is my pet peeve. Also would it kill you reference them.
